Yin yoga is all about releasing deep into the fascia of the body. Fascia is a thin layer of connective tissue that encapsulates every muscle, bone, ligament, tendon, and organ in your entire body! So when the fascia is tightly wound...so is everything else. Yin yoga is a great way to maintain or increase flexibility, as it focuses on the areas around the joints. You will immediately feel more spacious and buttery throughout your entire body. You likely will experience more open hips, less tight legs, chest and shoulders, and mind detox. This is a great option to compliment a strong yang practice or recovering from injury.
Restorative means to "restore" the body and mind. Typically even more simple and using even more props than some yin poses require, to intensify the notion of relaxation.
Both Yin and Restorative forms of yoga are slow-paced. They are both practices in calming the mind and nervous system enabling you to turn inward, focusing on breath and sensation.
